Drs. Laura Walkup and John Erickson Named CCRF Endowed Scholars

Congratulations to Laura Walkup, PhD and John Erickson, MD, PhD, on being named 2024 CCRF Endowed Scholars! This Program was designed to recognize and accelerate the success of assistant and associate professors who are emerging leaders as demonstrated by their scientific contributions and their impact. The program focuses on current rising stars to provide additional support that will allow creative extension of existing work, or taking on new projects, to enhance ongoing extramural funding and overall productivity.

Dr. Laura Walkup is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary Medicine in the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics. Her research program focuses on the technical development and clinical translation of proton (1H) and xenon gas (Xe) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques to evaluate regional lung disease, with translational emphasis on rare-lung diseases and pulmonary complications after therapies like hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (HSCT).

Dr. Erickson is an Assistant Professor in the Divisions of Neonatology and Pulmonary Biology in the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics. He is a committed physician scientist engaged in discovery-based research aimed at improving the health of Cincinnati Children’s tiniest patients and their families. The goal is to improve pediatric health by better understanding the mechanisms governing the immune interactions between a mother and her baby that start during pregnancy.
